A determining factor in abuse in sports is the power imbalance between coaches and athletes. The relationship between the two can be significantly unbalanced, giving the coach authority and control over the athlete. This power dynamic makes athletes extremely vulnerable to various forms of abuse, as fear of repercussions, the desire for success, or lack of alternatives may prevent them from reporting or resisting abusive behaviors. As a result, sports, which should be an environment for growth and development, can become a dangerous space where boundaries are ignored, and athletes are subjected to psychological, emotional, and physical risks.
